After receiving the initial ship design from the client, which only includes the basic framework and body design without details for the ship’s MEP, equipment, and ship cabins, usually in PDF file format, STASNIK will analyze the 2D drawing file. Then STASNIK created a detailed 3D model design of the entire ship, focusing on the MEP, equipment, and ship cabin using Foran V70 in .wrl format. Foran is CAD software specifically for ship design.

The detailed 3D model design will be reviewed by STASNIK's client. If the model is approved, STASNIK will create a detailed 2D model using Think3 CAD software, a third-party tool for making 2D drawings from the Foran V70. 

Unfortunately, Think3 is unable to assist STASNIK in processing ship design plotting pages, which often reach hundreds of designs. This situation has created an urgent need to use a more capable application that can handle hundreds of plotting pages while offering the same features, making it easy to use and not requiring specific training.

Aware of the challenges faced by STASNIK, one of their contacts at EPSON introduced them to ZWCAD, which is equipped with the SmartPlot feature and since 2022, STASNIK has adopted ZWCAD to help them easily plot multiple drawing files at once.

ZWCAD with its innovative feature, SmartPlot, has successfully helped STASNIK to boost its productivity most effectively and efficiently. STASNIK exports detailed 2D drawings from Think3 to ZWCAD in DWG or DXF format, enabling them to plot hundreds of plotting pages easily, which also boosts their productivity.

However, the export process from Think3 to ZWCAD sometimes results a slight changes in the drawing files. Hence, STASNIK must re-edit the 2D drawing files before proceeding with SmartPlot feature.

ZWCAD has almost every CAD feature like lines, dimensions, annotation, and plotting features like SmartPlot. Moreover, an additional key factor contributing to their workflow is the data exchange and file compatibility, familiar UI, as well as ease of use.
