Barranca Larga-Ventanilla Highway: Reducing Travel Time by 4 Hours

A highlight of Coconal's recent achievements is the 104km Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway project, which opened in February 2024 after 15 years of waiting. With an investment of over 13 billion pesos, this project features 2 traffic lanes, 2 toll plazas, 15 junctions, 10 bridges, 3 viaducts, and 3 tunnels. The new route significantly reduces the travel time between Oaxaca City and Puerto Escondido from over 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours. 

Beyond that, this project also enhances access to public services like healthcare and education for remote areas, fosters tourism and infrastructure development along the coast, and promotes economic growth in Oaxaca and the well-being of over 500 thousand residents in the region.

Tackling Project Challenges with the Multi-End Collaborative Solution of ZWCAD and ZWCAD Mobile

As a large-scale infrastructure project, the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway project required various design and engineering programs to complete different tasks. ZWCAD plays an instrumental role in the project’s success, bringing overall cost reduction and efficiency improvement. 

Thanks to ZWCAD's perpetual licensing model, Coconal doesn't need to worry about recurring subscription fees. “We began using ZWCAD in 2012. Over the past years, we renewed licenses and acquired more,” remarks José Juan Guzmán Zavala, Systems Coordinator at Coconal. “Software costs can be substantial in a large team like ours. ZWCAD helped us save a lot in software deployment and maintenance.”

ZWCAD Mobile is a free CAD viewer app that enables users to view, edit, measure and annotate CAD drawings on the go. The multi-end collaborative solution of ZWCAD and ZWCAD Mobile not only improves the portability of the resources but also facilitates coordination between the field and the office. After completing drafting on ZWCAD in the office, users can upload drawings to the cloud through ZWCAD and access them on ZWCAD Mobile in the field, saving time and cost spent in printing many drawings. 

“ZWCAD Mobile allows us to carry these blueprints and all these details to the field,” says Esteban López Sánchez, Planning Engineer. “It can function well even without the Internet. This aids our work as it saves our time and reduces costs.”
